Hospitality Management

We offer three different associate degrees in hospitality management, including hotel management, restaurant management, and meeting and event planning—the only AAS degree of its kind in Pennsylvania. In addition to the three associate degree options, we also offer several one-year specialized diploma programs to set you on the fast track to your career.

The associate degree in hotel management includes classes in guest services, room division law, and other subjects. For students interested in a career in restaurant management, this program will give you hands-on­ experience with live lab opportunities at outstanding local restaurants, "Hampton Winds" campus
restaurant, and at numerous campus special events. The restaurant administration program includes classes in food preparation techniques, dining room operations, menu planning and cost controls, and the fundamentals of beer, wines and spirits. This program prepared you to embark on careers in some of the best restaurants in Pennsylvania and equips you with the tools to one-day open a restaurant of your own.

The Hospitality Management program fosters teamwork, professionalism, and learning through
experience. Students will be prepared for a career in the hospitality industry by classroom learning
supplemented with field trips, quest speakers and industry certifications. All students will complete a 225 hour management practicum, where they will complete an'internship in their area of interest.

Since 2018 the Hospitality Management program has been accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in the Hospitality Management (ACPHA). Graduates with an AAS degree receive a Certified Hospitality Graduate (CHG) Certificate. The Hospitality Management Program is ranked the #1 Community College Hospitality Program in Pennsylvania by College Factual and #1 for BEST VALUE colleges for Hospitality Management in the Commonwealth.

The Hospitality Management - Restaurant Administration diploma will encompass broad training in all aspects of restaurant management including front of the house business and supervisory duties and convention services/catering operations.  Graduates will be prepared for entry-level management opportunities in fine-dining, full service and quick casual restaurants, institutional food service, hotel food service outlets, country clubs, and a variety of other food service establishments. Other industry opportunities are available with food brokers, distributors, manufacturers, and hospitality associations.  The primary focus of the diploma is to provide an educational methodology founded on the basic tenants of guest service, leadership, communication, teamwork and problem solving.  The program teaches students dining room operations, convention services and catering operations, food service safety and sanitation, hospitality management and marketing, guest services, and food and beverage management competencies.  Program and course content has been developed with extensive input from the hospitality industry.

In our signature resort management program, you will experience specialized programming and gain managerial, technical, and operational expertise necessary to run a resort or club. Northampton courses in resort management also include instruction in communication, leadership, and financial management, along with basic hospitality laws and best practices. By graduation, you will have a well-rounded skill set that prepares you not only for the management of resort operations but enables you to work your way up to high level management positions in  five star resorts around the country.

If you are a Northampton Community College student living outside of Pennsylvania or intending to complete an internship or clinical placement outside of the state in a OG真人官网 program leading to professional licensure, you should review requirements on the state board website to make sure that the program qualifies.

Licensure requirements vary from state to state and you may require additional authorization from the professional licensing agency in that state. Participating in a program from outside of Pennsylvania, if not properly authorized by that state's professional licensing board, could result in loss of licensing eligibility. If you need help or have questions, please contact the Program Director for more information.
