Cost of Attendance

Translate

Northampton Community College adheres to the principle that students and their families have the primary responsibility to pay for college costs as their means permit, financial assistance programs represent a bridge between a family's ability to pay and the cost of higher education.  All state, federal, private and institutional financial aid is used to assist as many students as possible by filling as much need as funds allow.  Last year, the College awarded over $46.7 million in financial assistance to approximately 7,200 full and part-time students.

Calculating a Cost of Attendance Budget

Personal expenses, books/supplies, room & board, and transportation costs vary greatly according to the individual's circumstances and spending habits.  For financial aid purposes, estimated costs are used.  Average tuition & fees are also used to simplify the calculations in each of the residencies.  Documented costs for dependent care related to the student's educational program, unreimbursed costs related to disability, required tools and program kits, and the documented cost of a leased or purchased personal computer related to the student's education program may be considered in adjustments to the cost of attendance budget.  Documentation must be submitted to the Financial Aid Office for such determination.  Additional aid might not be available to meet the increased need.

Calculating Financial Need

Need is the difference between the cost of attendance at OG真人官网 and the family's formula-calculated ability to pay.  The family's ability to pay, called the Expected Family Contribution (EFC), is determined by completing a need analysis application called the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.

Student Cost of Attendance (COA)  is the estimated cost of attending Northampton Community College.  The amount may include tuition, fees, books, supplies, room and board, personal and miscellaneous expenses, transportation and loan fees.

Total Expected Budget Family Contribution (EFC) is calculated according to a formula specified in law and is based upon the information provided by the student and their family on the FAFSA.

Financial Need is the amount OG真人官网 may offer in need-based aid.

Student Cost of Attendance (COA) - Total Expected Budget Family Contribution (EFC) = Financial Need
